Characteristics of Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
battery
Features Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries are the
Secondary ones that use alkaline liquor as electrolyte
.It uses Nickel hydroxide as the positive electrode and
hydrogen-absorbing alloys as the negative electrode.
This type of battery is defined by IEC285 as Alkaline
Sealed Cylindrical Rechargeable Battery.
Ni-MH batteries have about twice the energy density of
Ni-Cd batteries and a similar operating voltage as that
of Ni-Cd batteries.
1. Green Energy Ni-MH batteries are free of Cadmium and
mercury. They are an environmental friendly chemical
power source.
2. Free Maintenance
Simple operation like primary batteries but
avoid overcharging and overdischarging (-20oC
~+60oC
)
3.
Similarity with Ni-Cd batteries These batteries have
similar discharge characteristics to those of Ni-Cd
batteries.
4.
Double the energy density of conventional
batteries Green Power Ni-MH batteries
have approximately double the capacity compared with
Green PowerĄŻ standard Ni-Cd batteries.
5. Cycle life equivalent to 500
charge and discharge cycles Like Green Power Ni-Cd
batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries can be
repeatedly charged and discharged for about 500
cycles(IEC 61436 charge and discharge
conditions).
6.
Rapid charge in approx. 1.2 hours Green Power
Ni-MH batteries can be rapidly charged in about an hour
using a specially designed charger.
7. Excellent discharge
characteristics Since the internal
resistance of nickel-metal hydride batteries is low,
conditions for high-rate discharge up to 4CmA is
possible, similar to Ni-Cd batteries. For the high
capacity type battery, they can discharge at
5~10CmA.
